The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM)

Interview with Hassan Aaaki, Head of the Collection Management and Conservation Department
"These scanners are amazing. They are solid and never malfunction. These i2S scanners will allow us to meet all of our objectives and in particular to digitize 4,600,000 pages by mid-June 2016."

The challenge

The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM) is actively involved in preserving its national heritage. This project was established in 2009 with the aim of conserving, restoring, and digitizing all of Morocco's documentary collections comprising 80,000 manuscripts (including 200,000 titles) from the ninth century to the present day. These heritage collections are held in Moroccan libraries (BNRM, heritage libraries, university libraries, public libraries and private libraries open to the public).

Our solution

i2S equipped the BNRM with CopiBook scanners and DigiBook V-shape book scanners for works that require partial open scanning.

Advantages

Digitization of ancient manuscripts and very fragile manuscripts including scrolls, silk papers and simple papers in various formats (between 15 and 31 cm).
