Approach & Solution

The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM) is actively involved in preserving its national heritage. This project was established in 2009 with the aim of conserving, restoring, and digitizing all of Morocco’s documentary collections comprising 80,000 manuscripts (including 200,000 titles) from the ninth century to the present day.
These heritage collections are held in Moroccan libraries (BNRM, heritage libraries, university libraries, public libraries and private libraries open to the public).

i2S has equipped the BNRM with 2 types of scanners for works that require partial opening scanning: CopiBook Cobalt RGB and CopiBook V-Shape.

“These scanners are amazing. They are solid and never malfunction. These i2S scanners will allow us to meet all of our objectives and in particular to digitize 4,600,000 pages by mid-June 2016.”
Interview with Hassan Aaaki, Head of the Collection Management and Conservation Department

i2S scanners have been used to digitize a large number of very fragile archives and antique manuscript collections, including parchment, silk paper and plain paper, and to handle a wide range of document formats (from 15 to 31 cm).
